This may be surprising to some of my friends, many of whom wear glasses, but I have not had my eyes checked since I was in elementary school. Since eye exams are covered through my benefits, I went for my first eye exam today and learned that while I am slightly near sighted, my vision and eye health are good and I don't need glasses.
Considering that I probably spend more hours reading or staring at a computer screen than I do sleeping each day, this is excellent.
I voted in the municipal election today. It's a fairly interesting election. It's a toss up as to who will become the mayor. The list of candidates is rather interesting; there are several recent immigrants, and a Chinese dude whose grandfather was one of the first immigrants to the area. One of the aldermen who will surely be re-elected holds the record of being the youngest alderman ever. He was 24 when he was elected and did a good job in his first term. The current council is completely Caucasian, and many of the alderman (which includes women) have served several terms in office. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Results will come in tonight.
I should also note that I think voting is important and that I can't understand why people don't bother to vote. In my mind, people have died for this right, so I can't understand people who don't take voting seriously.
