Yesterday I listened to my first podcast Addicted to Race , created by the fine people at Mixed Media Watch , one of my favourite blogs.

I quite enjoyed it, and definitely plan to check out their next edition. Just watch, I'm slowly catching up with technology.

Speaking of race and culture, I picked up my copy of Langston Hughes' "The Ways of White Folks" and was absolutely blown away. The themes! The characters! The lyrical language! Holy fuck, why haven't I read any of his prose before?!?! He's amazing.

This piece reminds me of my friend Hari, who gets stopped every time he crosses the border just because he has extremely dark skin, a beard and long hair and speaks with a South Asian accent. It's a good piece about a Middle Eastern man and some of the things he experiences in a post 9-11 world.

The danger in travelling while brown

The title "travelling while brown" is a play off a reference to African Americans, who are pulled over for the crime of "driving while black."
